General Dentistry Questions

Does Drs. Bankhead and Groipen refer to specialists?

Although we are a general dental practice and perform the bulk of the work required by the patients in our practice there are times when patients will require the services of a specialist dentist. At that time we will make the appropriate referral.

What is nitrous oxide? Is it safe?

Nitrous oxide/oxygen is a blend of two gases, oxygen and nitrous oxide. When it is inhaled, it has a calming effect on the patient. The relaxed state it produces in the patient allows him to respond more favorably to treatment. Nitrous oxide/oxygen is very safe. The patient remains fully awake and alert and can respond easily to stimuli. It is eliminated quickly from the body with normal breathing.

Are x-rays really needed?

Yes. X-rays are the only way that we have to evaluate the condition of the roots, the bone around the teeth, and the areas in between the teeth where the teeth touch. We are very conservative in the number of x-rays that we take, and take only needed x-rays.

Why can't I talk to my doctor on the phone?

While in the office, most doctors are very busy seeing patients and trying to stay on schedule. The best way to communicate with your doctor is to leave a message with the front desk and they can speak to the doctor when he/she is between patients.
