Children

Do you see children? At what age should the dentist first see a child?

Yes, we see patients of all ages. We recommend that a child's first "get acquainted" visit be at age 2 or 3. However, if there is a concern about the child's oral health, feel free to contact us immediately.

Why are sealants recommended for my children's teeth?

Sealants are a resin material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the permanent back teeth--premolars and molars. This resin bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of back teeth. Many adults can also benefit from sealants. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids.

Why is fluoride so important for my and my child's teeth?

Fluoride is an element that occurs naturally. Fluoride can help prevent tooth decay when ingested systemically (in tablet or drop form) or applied to the teeth topically. Some of the primary benefits of fluoride are remineralization--a process that can reverse the beginnings of decay, and strengthening of the tooth's surface, making it more resistant to decay. This benefits permanent teeth, especially roots surface as well.
