After an adult should have a cleaning every six months. In addition to a cleaning, bitewing x-rays should be taken once a year and a full set every 5 years. These x-rays are necessary to diagnose possible cavities between the teeth as well as any changes in your periodontal health, such as the progression of bone loss or infection. Periodintal disease can contribute to heart disease. There is no substitute for good cleanings.
